Advisors Who Think in Decades

The Riverside Hartwell team combines deep technical expertise in EU financial structures with the discretion and long-term perspective that private wealth clients require.

Built for Longevity, Not Transactions

The advisory team at Riverside Hartwell is deliberately small. We do not operate a volume model: each principal advises a limited number of clients, ensuring that every mandate receives sustained, undivided attention. Our advisors hold Slovak financial intermediary licences under SKSI, maintain continuing professional development in EU financial regulation, and carry individual fiduciary responsibility for every recommendation they make. The team's combined experience spans asset management, insurance structuring, and cross-border estate law — giving us a multi-disciplinary perspective that single-discipline advisors cannot replicate.

The People Behind the Mandates

Each advisor brings a distinct discipline to the protection framework — structured so clients benefit from the full team's expertise on every engagement.

Ján Foltán — Principal Advisor

Ján founded Riverside Hartwell in 2011 after twelve years structuring institutional insurance mandates at a Vienna-based asset manager. He holds a Czech-Slovak CFA equivalent qualification and specialises in Luxembourg insurance bond design and multi-generational succession structures. He conducts all initial client consultations personally.

Miriam Vavrová — Risk Architecture

Miriam joined the firm in 2015 having spent eight years in risk oversight at a Slovak private bank. She produces every client's written risk architecture document and leads the annual portfolio review process. Her background in quantitative risk modelling gives the firm a technical depth unusual in boutique advisory practices.

Tomáš Kráľ — Regulatory & Estate Counsel Liaison

Tomáš coordinates with external legal and tax advisors on all cross-border estate and succession mandates. A qualified Slovak financial intermediary and former compliance officer at a Bratislava brokerage, he ensures every structural recommendation is reviewed for alignment with current Slovak tax law and applicable EU directives.

“What separates Riverside Hartwell from other advisors I had worked with is that Ján explained the structure in writing before asking us to commit to anything. The cream-and-burgundy strategy brief he produced for us in 2021 is still the document we refer back to at every annual review. It told us exactly what we owned, why, and what would trigger a change.”

Credentials and Professional Standards

All advisors at Riverside Hartwell operate under the supervision of the Slovak National Bank (NBS) through the SKSI intermediary register. Our advisory agreements explicitly adopt the fiduciary standard — meaning we are contractually obligated to act in the client's best interest at all times, including when that interest conflicts with a product provider's commercial preference. We carry professional indemnity insurance to EU minimums, hold client funds only through regulated third-party custodians, and provide clients with a full annual account of every fee, commission, and indirect benefit received during the mandate year. Transparency is not a selling point for us — it is a regulatory and contractual baseline.
